Is this program open to applicants of all nationalities?
All of Hop The Pond’s Internship programs are open to applicants of all nationalities. We do not have any nationality requirements.
Will my internship be paid?
Internships are paid. We guarantee all Hopper Interns a paid internship.
How many hours a week will I work?
Participants work an average of 40 hours per week. The majority of internships take place between 9 am and 6 pm including one-hour lunch. This may vary.
Can I speak to somebody who done the program?
Yes, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get you in touch with Alumni that have volunteered to answer questions from applicants.
Do many students get re-hired by the company abroad after the internship or after graduation?
A Hop The Pond internship greatly increases your chance of full-time employment. 69% of companies with 100 or more employees offered full-time jobs to their interns in 2013. However it depends on the host company’s need and ability to hire a new employee, as well as the intern’s performance and qualifications.
When is the deadline for an application?
Our programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so places are competitive. We recommend that you apply and enroll as early as possible to allow us to match you with the most suitable company and time frame.
What qualifications do I need to apply?
English language skills are required to participate in the program. We are looking for students or recent graduates with a strong passion and interest in foreign travels and a global career. Fluency in English is important.

How do I prepare myself to visit the U.S. and work in a U.S. workplace?
Once you arrive, Hop The Pond will facilitate a lecture on working and doing business in the U.S. with an industry expert who has years of experience. This includes an introduction to U.S. business etiquette and culture, which will help you feel more comfortable and ready.

What happens when I land at the airport?
Hop The Pond has drivers waiting for you at the arrival gate and escort you to the Hopper Intern Accommodation. Please note that this service is only included in some of our internship programs.
What is the Hopper Intern Accommodation like?
All accommodations are in Fornelli Hall, in the heart of Chicago’s central loop. All accommodation is safe, clean, equipped with Internet and located in the city center with easy access to public transportation.
How will you choose my roommate?
Before the commencement of the Hop The Pond Internship program, we will send every participant a Roommate Preferences Questionnaire that, once analyzed, matches personalities. We have never had a single roommate problem, but if a problem occurs, we work in conjunction with our on-site partners to solve it.
What is included in the events and weekend excursions?
The events we organize are one of the most popular features of our internship program. The internship program will cover all your transportation costs and entrance fees for the activities and excursions. Events and excursions are different each time. All of the programs include a welcome dinner and orientation, group dinners, networking events, parties, and much more.
What kind of assistance will I receive during the program?
You will meet our staff at the Welcome Dinner for introductions and we are readily contactable throughout the entirety of your internship, either by email or telephone.
Will Hop The Pond arrange my transportation so I can get to work?
All Hopper Interns will be given public transportation cards that will give you city transit, subway and bus rides to and from work.
How much does the Internship Program cost?
The program price varies depending on chosen program.
- 1-Month Full Package - $2,115.00 USD
- 2-Month Full Package - $3,865.00 USD
- 3-Month Full Package - $5,675.00 USD
- 1-Month Premium Internship - $950.00 USD
- 2-Month Premium Internship - $1,900.00 USD
- 3-Month Premium Internship - $2,850.00 USD
When are the payments due?
After being accepted into the Hop The Pond internship program (a congratulatory email will be sent) you will have 7 days from the time of the email to place the $500 USD deposit. Once you have secured you place the remaing balance will be due 30 days after the $500 was submitted (or six weeks before program start, which ever is sooner)
Does Hop The Pond offer scholarships?
Hop The Pond funds partial scholarships to selected students to provide financial benefits in participating in the program. Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of Academic, Athletic, or any other achievement that Hop The Pond deems eligible. Please contact Hop The Pond to enquire about a scholarship application form.
How do I obtain a visa for the internship program if I'm interested in?
The visa requirements are different from one location to another. Hop The Pond will assist applicants, whenever possible, with the visa application process. It is the responsibility of the applicant to cover all costs assossciated with it and secure it in time to begin the program.
How do I apply?
1) Click on the Apply Now button.
Complete the application process by going to your profile and entering in the Required informtion. Please ensure your resume is in a U.S. format.
2) Hop The Pond’s Review (5 days)
We will review your application to assess whether you’re a good fit for out program. If we feel that you might have what it takes to become a Hopper Intern, we’ll invite you to a Skype interview with us.
3) Online Interview via Skype (5 days)
The interview takes approximately 30 minutes, with plenty of emphasis on career goals and ambitions. Hop The Pond wants to meet candidates who are serious about a potential internship and have the right personality. A smile and a great attitude need to be brought to work each and every day.
4) Hop The Pond’s Verdict (7 days)
Within one week of your interview with Hop The Pond, notification of your acceptance or otherwise will be sent by e-mail. If the applicant is successful, an official acceptance letter will be sent, inviting the candidate to start the process of becoming a Hopper Intern.
5) Booking your Internship (7 days)
Successful applicants confirm their places in our program by paying a deposit of $500 USD within one week of receiving the letter of acceptance, as well as submitting a signed contract between Hop The Pond and the applicant. The remaining fee is then due one month after paying your deposit, or a minimum of six weeks before your departure date, whichever is sooner.
6) You’re officially a Hopper Intern!
Once we have received your deposit you will have formally secured a spot as a Hopper Intern. At this point Hop The Pond will stay in touch with you every step of the way and ensure you have all relevant information before your departure.
7) Interviews between Hopper Interns and Prospective Employers.
8) Employers get their own insight into Hopper Interns and decide whom they want to hire.
