How can you guarantee me a job?

Hop The Pond has teamed up with some of the coolest companies in Chicago, to guarantee seasonal work for suitable candidates. When you apply for a job through Hop The Pond, you must meet a certain standard that we’re looking for. We want to be known for having the best workers in the city of Chicago, so we’re looking for friendly, personable, motivated staff. Before we place you, we’ll have conducted a skype interview, and you’ll have submitted your CV, proof of visa and references.

If you apply and don’t meet our criteria, we’ll refund 100% of the cost.

Can I choose my job?

Hop The Pond specializes in finding jobs that suit your experience and personality. Through your skype interview and looking through your CV, we’ll have a great idea of what role will suit you. You can guide us, but we will ultimately place you in your job.

Can I work with my friends?

Maybe! If we can place you alongside somebody your friends with, and we feel it’s the right fit, well then why not?

What if I don’t actually get the job, do I get my money back?

Yes. If, for whatever reason, your job falls through, Hop The Pond will refund 100% of the job cost to you.

Is there a maximum and minimum amount of hours I’ll be working?

What we can say is that you will be working on average 20 hours per week. Most of the jobs that we do secure are outdoors and very dependent on the weather. If you do get off to a slow start because the weather is cooperating you need to get in touch with your marketing coordinator to see if they can supplement your hours.

What type of jobs does Hop The Pond have?

Put simply, Hop The Pond has the best jobs in the city of Chicago! From working at the coolest downtown bars and restaurants, to working in sports or out on the lake, Hop The Pond does it the right way! Just ask last years Hoppers.

USIT says there are no jobs in Chicago, is that true?

NO!! Chicago is a big city, and Hop The Pond has worked hard to land the greatest J1 jobs in the US, let alone Chicago. We have the jobs waiting for you!

Accomodation

How much will it cost me?

You will need to submit a down payment ($500) in order for us to get the process going. We have a supply of great apartments all across the city and many more contacts to rent from if the demand is there. Once you okay the apartment we will send you an invoice with the remaining balance. The most that you will spend will be $1750 for a 10-week stay but more than likely we will find you one cheaper.

Can I live with my friends who aren’t Hoppers?

Of course! Everyone that is living in our apartments will need to go through our service to be able to live there. If you have a group of 10 friends that are all coming over and would like to live together…we will either find you a large apartment in the city or two apartments close together.

Where will my apartment be located in the city?

We will only be leasing apartments that are close to transportation and only in safe neighborhoods. We will also take into account where your job is and keep you close to all the fun areas.

How many people per room?

Our goal is not to fit as many Hoppers into an apartment as we can. Our goal is to give you the most affordable apartment and put you in the safest location possible. We will be working together to figure out who you want to live with and if you want to have a roommate. If will all come down to your budget and what you can spend on housing that will determine that.

Will there be a security deposit?

Yes, there will be a fully refundable security deposit that every Hopper will need to pay before they can move in. This is to ensure that any damage caused during your stay will be covered. To keep up to date on that our Marketing Coordinators will be checking in on the apartment every two weeks to make sure there aren’t any issues.

Are you allowed drink alcohol in the apartment?

Yes, you are allowed to consume alcohol in the apartment if you are of legal age to do so in the United States. That age is 21.

Do I have to pay for the entire summer up front?

Yes. The down payment of $500 is only there to begin the process of looking for apartments. The remaining balance will be due before you are allowed to move in.

How do you pay? Cash / Bank Transfer / Check / Debit or Credit Card?

All transactions for every Hop the Pond product or service will be required to go through our website. You will need to have an approved Debit or Credit card to do so. We will not accept any Cash or Bank transfer.

My friends from home are coming to visit for 2 weeks, can they stay too?

No, all individuals residing in the apartment need to be on the Hop The Pond lease. Failure to follow this policy may result in a fine or repeat offending may face eviction.

Other Questions

Can I pay for all four major trips up front and get a discount?

No, we currently are not offering bulk discounts on grouping the trips together. The prices that are listed on the site are the lowest prices that we can give to you as the Hopper. We understand that all the Hoppers are going to be on a budget and that is why we are passing on those savings.

What happens if I’m 14,000ft in the air and I decide I don’t want to jump?!

You will jump…that is what will happen. Every Hopper that jumped last year said it was the best experience of their life. The professional staff the skydiving facility make you feel at ease and will walk you through everything before hand.

Can I pay for my job and accommodation when I’m booking with USIT or Go4Less?

We are currently meeting with USIT and Go4Less to help promote Chicago. The goal for Hop the Pond was to pick up where the visa companies leave off. The easiest part on any travel trip is to get on the plane and take off. Where Hop the Pond comes in to play is that we will make sure you have the best possible trip as possible.

What happens if I get homesick? Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately this has happened in the past. Hop the Pond’s policy is that we will take each situation and determine the best way to help you out. The biggest thing that you can do if you start to feel a little uneasy about your stay is to get in touch with us. We are more than happy to meet with you and run through some options.
